BELVIDERE, Ill. (WTVO) — The Belvidere Assembly Plant is set to reopen with the production of two new Jeep vehicles, automaker Stellantis said Tuesday.
The company said it plans to invest $13 billion in the United States to increase its domestic manufacturing footprint, and launch five new vehicles over the next four years.
Stellantis said it would invest more than $600 million to reopen the Belvidere Assembly Plant and expand production of its Jeep Compass and Jeep Cherokee models for the U.S. market.
The expansion is expected to create 3,000 new jobs and is expected to launch in 2027.
The plant has sat idle since 2023.
