A man has been charged after a child was assaulted while playing near an encampment in Winnipeg’s Centennial neighbourhood last week.

On October 8, around 2:30 p.m., a group of children were playing by a park near Pacific Avenue and Ellen Street when one of them was struck by a water bottle thrown by a man in the encampment, police said. The man then chased the boy down the street while yelling at him.

The children ran to safety and told a parent what had happened. The child was not physically injured. The parent took a photo of the suspect and contacted the police.

Officers arrived at the park and located the man at the encampment. He was taken into custody without incident.

Police said 27-year-old Ryan Mark Vivier has been charged with assault with a weapon.
