A player who once stepped away from hockey altogether, is looking to step up, big time, with the Edmonton Oilers this season.
Noah Philp is no secret around the city, where he filled university nets with pucks. In two seasons with the University of Alberta Golden Bears, he was a point-per-game player, scoring 38 of them (20 goals, 18 assists) in 36 games — including a goal-a-game pace with eight in eight games his second season.
But that was interrupted when he signed a one-year contract with the Oilers and got his first taste of professional hockey with the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League.
In his first full season there, he finished in the top five in team scoring with 37 points (19 goals, 18 assists) in 70 games, tying for second in goals.
