The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday turned down an appeal from right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones seeking to overturn the more than $1.4 billion judgments ordered against him over his false statements about the 2012 Sandy Hook elementary school mass shooting.
The court, as is typical, did not explain its reasoning for denying Jones’ appeal. To date, Jones has not paid any monetary damages to the Sandy Hook families.
Jones and his company, Infowars, filed for bankruptcy after the families of victims in the Sandy Hook mass shooting in Connecticut won judgments in 2022 totaling nearly $1.5 billion against Jones in defamation lawsuits. Jones had repeatedly promoted baseless conspiracy theories about the Sandy Hook massacre.
