Seven people were sent to hospital after an explosion at a high-rise construction site in Toronto Tuesday morning, police say.

Emergency services responded to a call at 9:30 a.m. about an explosion inside a building near Esther Shinier Boulevard and Provost Drive, Toronto police said in a social media post.

Crews extinguished a natural gas fire on the 22nd floor of the building, Toronto Fire said.

Toronto Emergency Medical Services (EMS) said they transported seven people to hospital with injuries ranging from life-threatening to minor.

Workers inside the building were evacuated immediately, police said.

Construction workers gathered outside the building following the incident, before they were given the go-ahead to go back inside later in the morning.
