Toronto’s annual festival of spine-chilling cinema has officially kicked off at Scotiabank Theatre.

The Toronto After Dark Film Festival, which began on Wednesday and runs until Sunday, is a showcase of horror, science fiction and action films. The festival is screening 10 feature premieres and 29 short films over five nights.

Peter Kuplowsky, legacy festival director of Toronto After Dark, said the festival is marking its 18th edition. It started in 2006 at Bloor Cinema and took a hiatus in 2024. He said passes sold out this year before the festival announced a single film.
