RED CORRAL, Calif. —
One person is dead following a head-on crash in Amador County on Monday, according to the county's fire protection district.
Crews responded to the report of a crash just after 7 p.m. on Highway 88 at Aqueduct Grove Road.
Amador Fire Chief Robert Withrow said two vehicles collided head-on, causing major damage, and the two people had to be extricated from the vehicles.
One person died at the scene. The other was taken to an area hospital with critical injuries.
Highway 88 was closed in the area as crews worked to clear the crash. Just before 11 p.m., Caltrans information showed the highway had reopened to traffic.
It's unclear what led up to the collision. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
