The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Prediction Center issued a La Niña Advisory , and conditions are favored to persist through the winter season.

The weather phenomenon first emerged in September, as indicated by cooler-than-average sea surface temperatures expanding across the eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean, according to the Oct. 9 advisory.

"La Niña conditions emerged in September 2025, as indicated by the expansion of below-average sea-surface temperatures across the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean," the prediction center said in a statement.
