The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is urging consumers to stop using bed rails sold at Walmart and Amazon after the death of an 81-year-old woman.
OasisSpace bed rails , distributed and sold by Gold Kernal LLC, have been flagged by the CPSC for creating an asphyxiation hazard with potential for users to become entrapped between the bed rail and mattress. The bed rails failed to meet the requirements of the Safety Standard for Adult Portable Bed Rails, CPSC said.
The safety warning follows the October 2023 death of an 81-year-old Ohio woman who died after becoming entrapped between an OasisiSpace bed rail and the mattress.
Gold Kernal has not issued a recall of the bed rails or offered a remedy to consumers, CPSC said.
The warning covers four models of OasisSpace bed rails,
