Researchers are beginning to learn more about the dangers of microplastics and how they are impacting people physically.

Microplastics are tiny pieces of plastic smaller than a grain of rice. These small pieces can end up in our food and water supplies, eventually ending up inside people's bodies.
Dr. Abinash Achrekar, vice chair of medicine at the University of New Mexico, said, "Over time, they break down into smaller bits that end up in our food and water and in our bodies.
"UNM researchers recently found that the average human brain can contain about the same weight as a plastic spoon in microplastics."
