CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WV News) — An agreement is in the works to ensure the ongoing federal government shutdown doesn't impact one of the state's most popular annual events, Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced.

State officials are currently in talks with representatives of the National Park Service to extend the agreement to keep West Virginia’s national parks fully operational — just in time for Bridge Day on Saturday.

"Our agreement with the National Parks ends on Friday night," Morrisey said Tuesday. "It's my intent that if the federal government fails to reopen by then, I fully intend to extend that agreement and Bridge Day will go on as planned."

Bridge Day, referred to as the state's largest single-day festival, attracts visitors from around the world to the New River Gorge National Park
