A fire broke out on a moving AC sleeper bus on the Jaisalmer-Jodhpur Highway on Tuesday afternoon at around 3:30 PM, trapping passengers inside as the bus doors were locked.

Eyewitnesses said that people jumped out of the bus by breaking windows, but many could not escape the flames.

The fire brigade reportedly did not arrive for nearly 50 minutes. The Army intervened, using a JCB to break open the bus gate and rescue passengers trapped inside. According to local eyewitness Kastoor Singh, 16 people were rescued while others remained inside as the fire consumed the vehicle.

Casualties and injuries

The bus carried 57 passengers. Following the incident, severely burnt passengers were initially taken to Jawaharlal Hospital in Jaisalmer via ambulances. Later, they were referred to Mahatma G
