Outdoor and sporting goods chain Orvis, which has three retail stores in New York, announced it's closing over almost half of its locations nationwide by early 2026.

Orvis president Simon Perkins told USA TODAY in an Oct. 10 statement the company plans on reducing the products it sells as well as shuttering 31 stores and five outlets due to the "unprecedented tariff landscape."

"We are entering an exciting new chapter by returning to our roots and sharpening our focus on the pursuits at the heart of our heritage: fly fishing and wingshooting," Perkins said. "This focus is about more than products − it’s about ensuring Orvis continues to lead in innovation, serve our angling and upland communities, and protect the wild places we love."
