SMITHVILLE, Texas — Smithville police say an arrest is expected in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian.

Officers responded to the Super Donuts on Loop 230 around 7:34 p.m. on Oct. 11 for reports of an unresponsive man in the parking lot. Police said they found the man, identified as Jimmie Lee Jones of Smithville, and began CPR until medics arrived.

Jones was then taken to a hospital in Austin, where he later died. Investigators believe Jones was hit by a vehicle whose driver left the scene.

Police said an investigation began Oct. 12, and they later found the suspect’s vehicle in the Pflugerville area with help from the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle was seized.

Authorities have not released the suspect’s name or charges at this time.
