The head of Ubisoft ‘s popular “Assassin’s Creed” video game franchise, Marc-Alexis Côté, has exited the French gaming giant amid the launch of its new subsidiary, Vantage Studios .

Led by co-CEOs Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot, Vantage launched two weeks ago.

Announced March 27, the spinoff was created to “accelerate the growth” of three of Ubisoft’s top franchises — “Assassin’s Creed,” “Rainbow Six” and “Far Cry” — and “focus on building brand ecosystems capable of becoming evergreen, billion-euro franchises.” The company is a joint venture with Ubisoft stakeholder Tencent.

Côté exits Ubisoft after two decades with the company and on the heels of the publisher announcing an “Assassin’s Creed” TV series in the works at Netflix. He was co-director for “Assassin’s Creed II
