Filthy road signs on main roads are to be cleaned after complaints they are ‘in such poor state that they are barely legible’.

Several signs obscured by thick grime, including one with electrical connections exposed, were reported to Bury council by Radcliffe First councillor Carol Birchmore in July this year.

Now the council has pledged to clean up the signs on Pilkington Way and New Road in Radcliffe so motorists will have a better chance of knowing where they are going.

Coun Birchmore, said: “I submitted photos and location maps to the council complaining about the poor state of some of the road signs. Some of the signs are so dirty and in such a poor state that they are barely legible.
