FARMINGTON, Maine (WABI) - In order for Governor Janet Mills to have the chance to unseat Susan Collins, she’ll have to make it through that primary first.

She is now one of eight Democrats running.

University of Maine Farmington Political Science Professor Jim Melcher thinks that primary will serve as a true test of the Maine Democratic Party and the direction it wants to go.

“It sets up a real ideological and generational challenge in the Democratic Party,” Melcher. “Do you want the establishment, or do you want something new?
