Weld County’s only domestic violence safehouse is just $1 million away from reaching its funding goal of $7 million for a new safehouse doubling the size of the previous one.

A Woman’s Place offers emergency shelter and supportive services for people impacted by domestic violence. The shelter is struggling to keep pace with the rapid growth of Weld County, now having to turn away 40% of those seeking shelter due to a lack of space.

The shelter has seen a 29% increase in crisis calls within recent years, according to Diane Heldt, the executive director of A Woman’s Place. Since 2019, the shelter has had to turn away 1,200 people, including 213 children, who were seeking emergency shelter because the safehouse was at capacity.
