LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A recent study ranks Arkansas near the bottom for energy efficiency among the lower 48 states.

The consumer finance site WalletHub ranked Arkansas as 44th out of 48. The study arrived at its rankings by measuring the efficiency of auto and home energy consumption in the 48 states.

The home energy efficiency score was calculated by dividing the total residential energy consumption per capita by annual degree days, the authors stated. Here, Arkansas received a score of 43.

The auto efficiency ranking used two factors: the annual vehicle miles driven divided by gallons of gasoline consumed and annual miles driven per capita. Arkansas earned a 37 score in this category, leading to a total score for both categories of 35.57.
