MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A Memphis man is now charged with second-degree murder after police say he shot and killed someone he knew at a South Memphis gas station on Monday.
The Memphis Police Department alleges that 50-year-old Elliott Thurston Nelson fired shots at a man at the Marathon gas station at the corner of South Third Street and East Mallory Avenue.
Police say Nelson accidentally shot himself in the process.
Both men were rushed from the scene to the hospital Monday afternoon. MPD reports that the unnamed victim did not survive.
Shelby County Jail records show that Nelson was formally charged Tuesday.
