ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — The ABQ BioPark got a new resident on Tuesday morning when Duke City's favorite hippo, Karen, gave birth to a brand new baby.

The camera's were rolling when the little one made their big debut, and took their first breath of fresh air. “Karen's a very good mother,” said Bricker Thietten, a member of the hippo care team. “During this time we keep our distance, read her behavior, and work with her to make sure all her needs are met while she bonds with the calf.”

The name and sex of the baby have not yet been determined.
