A Montreal landlord has filed a lawsuit against the city, accusing officials of negligence and unlawful forced evacuations linked to a crumbling building on Parc Ave. that was left to decay for years before its demolition this summer.
Norm Gordon, president of BDS Investments, which owns an 18-unit apartment building at 5998–6000 Parc Ave., said he is seeking $471,742 in damages from the City of Montreal and the owners of a neighbouring property, Habitat 237 Grande-Île S.E.N.C.
Gordon claims both parties failed in their duty to protect the public from a hazardous building at 5986–5992 Parc Ave., which had been in disrepair for years.
According to court documents, the city ordered the evacuations from Gordon’s building on four occasions between 2022 and 2025.
