Ireland’s hopes of qualifying for their first World Cup since 2002 received a boost with victory over 10-man Armenia at the Aviva Stadium.

Evan Ferguson headed home the crucial goal after 70 minutes to secure the Boys In Green’s first group victory of the campaign.

The three points means that Heimir Hallgrimsson’s men are now a point behind second-placed Hungary following their 2-2 draw in Portugal going into the final two fixtures next month.
