COLCHESTER, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - Vermont politicians called on Vermont Sen. Samuel Douglass (R-Troy) to resign after a Politico article claimed that he had participated in a national Young Republican group chat, including making racist and prejudiced comments.

Governor Phil Scott, who is a Republican, released a statement calling for Douglass's resignation as senator and a member of the party.

The hateful statements made in this group chat are disgusting and unacceptable. The vile, racist, bigoted, and antisemitic dialogue that has been reported is deeply disturbing. There is simply no excuse for it. Those involved should resign from their roles immediately and leave the Republican party – including Vermont State Senator Sam Douglass.
