MARTINSVILLE (WDBJ7) — The Martinsville-Henry County YMCA is working to build a new 60,000-square-foot facility as the community is outgrowing the current space.

The YMCA has already raised $19 million of the $28 million needed for the new facility through a community capital campaign.

The project comes after years of recognizing the need for more space to accommodate growing membership and expanded programming.

Margaret Fey, a YMCA Tai Chi instructor, said her class has reached capacity due to the size of the room.

“We have outgrown this space. So, it would be nice to have a bigger facility. We’d also love to do it outside. Under the sunshine or in the grass is wonderful, and there’s not a space for that right here,” said Fey.
