ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - The City of Roanoke is looking into creating an entertainment district, which include plans for a potential casino in the Berglund Special Events Center.
The city is announcing a plan to evaluate the potential for a casino, much like other cities in Virginia.
“The Berglund Center stands out as a landmark civic facility worth potential for continued growth and success,” said Roanoke City Manager, Valmarie Turner. “This initiative is about reimagining what’s possible.”
Mayor Joe Cobb said the potential for economic growth is something to consider with the potential for the city to receive 6% of the first $100 million made in gaming revenue.
He said the revenue will be reinvested into neighborhoods, schools, infrastructure and public safety.
