JONES COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - A hand, foot, and mouth disease outbreak has been reported at Lueders-Avoca ISD.
District officials say the disease has caused "a recent abundance of absences" and that they are working to combat the spread by practicing CDC recommendations such as frequent hand washing and sanitizing of all school facilities.
Parents are also asked to keep students home if they have signs of hand, foot, and mouth disease, such as blisters or fever.
The Center for Disease Control says infected individuals can show the following symptoms for up to 2 weeks: • Fever • Sore throat • Painful mouth sores that blister • Rash commonly found on the hands and feet
