LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Community concerns have prompted leaders to halt new housing projects in the Indian Land area, also known as the Panhandle, until infrastructure rules are rewritten.
The decision came Monday night after Lancaster County Council voted unanimously (7–0) to enact a nine-month moratorium on new single-family and multifamily residential developments. The pause allows the county time to finalize its Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), aimed at better managing growth.
David Basri, a local resident, was among several who spoke in favor of the moratorium during Monday night’s meeting.
“Essentially, the county is behind the eight ball at this point,” Basri said. “You’ve just gotta finish the job. There’s just too much going on in the meantime.”
