WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - The Supreme Court is set to hear a case on Wednesday that may change how race is considered when drawing new congressional maps.

The case, Louisiana v. Callais, focuses on Louisiana’s second majority-Black congressional district. A group of self-described “non-African American” voters are challenging the district and argue that it is an unconstitutional racial gerrymander. But the high court has also expanded the scope of the case, to a new question that may weaken part of the Voting Rights Act.
