Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca says he will ask council to spend $350,000 from its 2026 budget on "crime fighting" technology following a summer of violent incidents in the York Region city.
The money would be spent on up to 10 new closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras as well as what is called gunshot detection technology, Del Duca says.
Each camera costs $23,000, for a total of $230,000, while the gunshot detection technology costs $120,000. If the additional cameras are approved, Vaughan will have a total of 25 CCTV cameras across the city.
