An investigation continued Tuesday into an off-road vehicle crash that killed a 46-year-old Thermal resident near Rancho Dos Palmas.
The collision occurred shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday on Gas Line Road west of Summit Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said a Polaris RZR traveling westbound on Gas Line Road crashed into a chain link fence, with the driver subsequently fleeing the scene in an unknown direction.
The passenger, whose identity was not revealed, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver’s whereabouts remain unknown.
It was not immediately clear if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, the CHP said.
The cause of the crash was still being investigated.
