A report prepared for Wednesday’s meeting of Quinte West Council recommends the City keep the status quo when it comes to wastewater billing.

Council previously asked staff to examine the feasibility of alternate billing approaches to address non-sewage wastewater consumption.

The City has heard concerns from residents that charging wastewater rates based on water meter consumption is not accurate as high outdoor water use like lawn watering disproportionately inflates wastewater bills since much of that water does not enter the wastewater system.

The report found that installing sewer meters or allowing self-reporting is neither feasible nor financially viable and that current rates are still reasonable when compared to what it would cost to purchase and transport water from bulk water
