INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. — A Taco Bell employee was shot and killed at the Indian Trail restaurant Monday night, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office .

Deputies responded to the restaurant shortly before 9 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. The victim, an employee of the restaurant, died as a result of the shooting.

The suspect fled in a vehicle, and investigators are now working to compile a description of the suspect and the car, deputies said. Authorities said detectives are gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine what led to the shooting.

The restaurant and surrounding area have been secured, and Taco Bell remained closed Tuesday while the investigation continues. Deputies said there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the community.
