BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - The Brick Church and other warming centers in Bangor are preparing to apply for funding from the city amidst a critical shortage.

Bangor City Council announced Wednesday to allocate $60,000 to funding warming centers this winter.

This comes in the wake of sudden closures for many warming centers in the Bangor area due to a loss of state funding.

The Brick Church on Union Street is looking to submit its application by the October 22nd deadline, having previously operated for six seasons and providing meals to over 60 people a day on average.

Church pastor Leon Licata says that the opportunity comes at a crucial time.
