A woman allegedly shot and killed her husband inside their Santa Claus, Indiana, home before taking her own life Tuesday afternoon, the state police said.

Several law enforcement agencies responded to the deadly shooting, which the Indiana State Police deemed a "murder-suicide," at 12:17 p.m. after the woman, Jamie Adkins, reportedly dialed 911 to report she had shot her husband, John Adkins.

"Officers with the Santa Claus Police Department, Indiana State Police and Spencer County Sheriff’s Office responded to the residence in Santa Claus," ISP Jasper District spokesman Sgt. John Davis wrote in a news release. "Officers attempted to make contact with [Jamie Adkins] but were unsuccessful. Officers then made entry into the residence."
