SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - KTIV has learned the City of Sioux City’s plans to fix a broken water main in a Morningside neighborhood that caused the street above it to collapse.
Around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning, a city water main broke under the 300 block of South Cornelia Street, causing a portion of the street to collapse.
The road collapse is the length of several homes and left six homeowners without access to their driveways. The hole is several feet deep. One portion of the hole is the width of the whole street.
“These water leaks usually start off small, and then they’ll grow. The water, once it finds a little hole in the pipe, it’ll actually burn a hole through the pipe, like it’s a torch,” said Sioux City City Engineer Gordon Phair. “And a lot of times the water will go up right under
