ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Sheriff Alfred Montgomery walked into federal court Tuesday but did not walk out, as a federal judge said he no longer thinks it’s possible to properly supervise the sheriff on house arrest.
The newest federal charges of witness tampering and intimidation come with a twist on that a judge said he could not get past. Prosecutors allege the sheriff used a burner phone to make the alleged tampering and intimidation calls.
Some of the incidents are alleged to have occurred while the sheriff was on house arrest for a misdemeanor civil rights charge.
Prosecutors also alleged Sheriff Montgomery was cagey about his marijuana use and the number of guns he possessed. A court supervision rep said the sheriff reported having five guns that needed to be taken from him while on
