NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — It looks like we finally have a bit of a pattern change on the horizon. A trough currently digging into the Desert Southwest will slowly make its way east later this week, likely sending a cold front through our area sometime over the weekend. The major forecast models still differ a bit on the exact timing, but both agree that the front will make it here — so confidence is growing that we’ll finally see some rain and a touch of cooler air.
Before the front arrives, winds will turn more southeasterly, pulling plenty of Gulf moisture back into the region. That’ll help increase rain chances gradually through the weekend. As of now, Saturday looks to bring scattered showers and storms mainly west of the Mississippi River, with rain chances spreading across the whole area
