Starting on Wednesday, BC Ferries requires a reservation for all vehicles traveling from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo.

The reservation only applies to those sailing from the Vancouver side.

The change is due to control traffic during a multi-year construction at the Horseshoe Bay terminal.

Additionally, BC Ferries has added a new sailing-space alert tool, which sends an email if space becomes available on a previously sold-out sailing.

It has also added a separate digital waitlist tool where you can select a spot when your preferred sailings are full.
