CHEYENNE — A legacy is not in the physical things you leave behind, it’s in the people who loved and supported you through it all.

That was the sentiment shared Saturday by Layne Macey-Cerrone at an event honoring her late mother, Virginia “Ginny” Macey, owner of The Emporium in downtown Cheyenne for more than 50 years.

When Ginny Macey died on Oct. 9, 2024, friends and family knew that although she may be gone physically, her spirit will persevere, not just in her store, but in the hearts of those she touched — and there were so many.

Dozens of people who knew Ginny gathered at The Emporium, located at 1605 Capitol Ave., on Saturday morning to say one last tearful goodbye before Macey-Cerrone handed the store keys to its new tenants.
