The Gaston County Courthouse was evacuated Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 14, because of a bomb threat.

Located at 325 Dr M.L.K. Jr. Way, Gastonia, as of 1:15 p.m., the courthouse was cleared, and investigators were searching the building, according to the Gaston County Sheriff's Office.

A call came into the clerk's office shortly after noon, according to Clerk of Court Roxann Rankin. The caller said that there were two cars in the parking lot with bombs in them.

Roads around the courthouse have been blocked off, and the building closed to the public for the day.

Because of the situation, Monday's County Commission meeting was canceled.
