Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis is far from giving up on doing all the city can to overcome an addiction, mental health and homelessness crisis that is only growing since he formally declared a city state of emergency in February of last year in the aftermath of a rash of multiple street drug overdoses.
On Monday, he appealed to city councillors to approve his latest ask — a new Mayor’s Task Force announced September 26 — to garner all and any new ideas to arm the city with a plausible, effective strategy backed by hard data and expert opinions to find real solutions.
