CONCORD, N.H. —
Lawmakers in Concord are trying to determine how the Claremont School District ended up with a $5.1 million budget shortfall and how to prevent it from happening again.
The district announced the shortfall over the summer, and school leaders faced questions in Concord on Tuesday, including why the deficit wasn't flagged sooner.
District representatives said the shortfall resulted from leadership failures and mismanagement, and that new mistakes are still being found.
"This is the district's problem. They're in this problem. They got themselves into this problem," said attorney Jim O'Shaughnessy.
