LAYTON— Investigators have determined a fire that destroyed a building at the Layton Meadows Apartments complex last week was not human-caused or suspicious in nature.

The early-morning fire tore through a building of the apartment complex, 480 W. 1425 North, leaving nearly 40 people without a home on Friday. The blaze also forced evacuations of two nearby buildings, prompting a total of 80 people to be evacuated, according to Red Cross disaster services program manager Sarah Marshall.

A media release issued by the Layton Fire Department on Tuesday stated that while investigators are still trying to identify the cause of the fire, investigators have confirmed it was not started by a person and does not appear to be suspicious.
