JACKSON, MI – Jackson Mayor Daniel Mahoney said he will not run for any elected office in 2026.

Mahoney made the announcement during a Tuesday, Oct. 14 Jackson City Council meeting. He was elected mayor in both 2021 and 2023.

Mahoney said that until about two months ago, he had planned to run again for Michigan’s 46th State House District but ultimately decided to take time to focus on his family.

“There are much more pressing issues that need my time and attention than having to worry about knocking on somebody’s door and convincing them that I should be able to continue to do the work that I’ve been doing in this community,” Mahoney said.
