BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Mayor-President Sid Edwards is making his final push for the Thrive EBR tax plan as voters prepare to decide its fate in next month’s election.

The three-part tax renewal, which Edwards says will address the city-parish’s budget shortfall, has gained support from the Metro Council and several city agencies.

The administration is now working to win over residents in Central, where some council members acknowledge taxpayer fatigue. Councilwoman D’Ann Wells said people in her district have expressed concerns about the financial burden.

“I feel like a lot of our people are taxed out and so that’s just gonna be a conversation on the table,” Wells said. “So, why should I vote for this renewal because it’s gonna be more money out of our pocket.”
