INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. (WBTV) - An investigation is underway in Union County after a Taco Bell employee was killed at the fast food restaurant on Monday night.

The shooting occurred at the Taco Bell around 8:45 p.m. on Independence Boulevard near Indian Trail Road.

As authorities collect evidence trying to solve this case, the community is trying to figure out what turned this fast-food restaurant into a crime scene.

“Something like that going on here doesn’t happen too often,” said Bradley Kern, who has called Indian Trail home for 15 years. Kern said violent crime like this is a poor reflection of their community.

“This is known as a safe area,” Kern said. “You don’t hear about a lot of crime going on here.”
