CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Ten Lowcountry hotels were recognized with Michelin Guide Keys this week, marking them as some of the most outstanding hotels in the United States.

A hotel that receives a Michelin Key is synonymous with a restaurant that receives a Michelin Star.

Inspectors search for five criteria when selecting, which include excellent architecture and interior design, quality and consistent service, overall personality and character, value for price, and whether the hotel contributes to its surrounding setting.

Similar to restaurants, Michelin-rated hotels can earn one, two, or three keys, with the guide calling three-key spots the most outstanding stays in the world.
