MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) -- The Town of Mount Pleasant unanimously passed a salary increase for first responders in the town.
This comes after a wage study revealed their pay was not as competitive as surrounding municipalities. Many people in the community showed out to the town council meeting about the first responder salaries.
Some were in support of the 4% salary increase while others asked the council to let the increase go through the committee for the budget process.
The wage study conducted in September recommended a 6% wage increase for first responders.
Last month, Mount Pleasant council voted to raise the mileage rate in a 5 to 4 vote. This means Mount Pleasant homeowners will see an increase in property tax to pay for the first responder wage accommodation.
