BOSSIER CITY, La. — Bossier City officials say the city is ending the fiscal year with an $11,000 budget surplus, thanks largely to an increase in sales tax revenue.

According to members of the city’s Finance Committee, sales tax revenue — which makes up about half of the city’s total income — has risen by nearly 5 percent.

City leaders say two capital projects are currently underway: improvements to the Council on Aging and maintenance work on several fire department buildings. Despite the positive financial news, officials say challenges remain. The city holds a AA bond rating after refinancing its bonds.
